Simba Services teaches H2S Safety and American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED for crews working in and around Odessa. Classes run in Greenwood, Texas, or we come to your yard, office or site anywhere in Ector County. Each class takes up to 10 people. H2S is $125 per person ($105 each for 4 or more), and First Aid/CPR/AED is $95 ($80 each for 4 or more).

Why Odessa crews usually need both cards

The two cards answer two different rules. H2S training comes from Railroad Commission Statewide Rule 36, which requires operators with more than 100 ppm H2S to train workers in affected areas and to use trained service company personnel (16 TAC §3.36). First aid training comes from OSHA: where there is no clinic or hospital in near proximity, a trained first aider must be on hand (29 CFR 1910.151). A lease road west of Odessa can be a long way from an emergency room. See OSHA first aid requirements for remote sites.

Getting here from Odessa

Open classes meet at Simba's yard, 9507 FM 307, Midland, TX 79706, on FM 307 just before Greenwood High School. From central Odessa, take I-20 east past Midland to the FM 307 (Greenwood) exit, then follow FM 307 east about 6 miles. That is about 31 miles, roughly 35 minutes by OpenStreetMap routing, and longer in traffic. Plan to leave early for the 8 AM H2S start.

A Thursday or Saturday class day

  • Thursday: H2S from 8 AM to noon, then First Aid/CPR/AED from 1 to 3 PM. Workers who need both can do them back to back and be done by mid-afternoon.
  • Saturday: both classes together from 8 AM to 5 PM, for crews who are on location during the week.

Every H2S student must bring a photo ID. Give us each person's full name as it should appear on the card when you book.

On-site classes in Ector County

If your crew is in Odessa, Gardendale, Penwell, West Odessa or elsewhere in Ector County, we can bring the class to your yard, shop or office instead. You provide a room or covered space with seats and a power outlet for up to 10 people, and we bring the training gear, including CPR manikins and AED trainers. On-site classes can be set on days other than Thursday and Saturday.

To set one up:

  1. Pick "At your site" on the booking form and give the address.
  2. Tell us the headcount and who needs H2S, CPR or both.
  3. Suggest two or three dates that fit your crew's schedule.
  4. Send the card your operator requires, if they named one.

More than 10 people? We split them into back-to-back sessions. See on-site and group safety training.

Which cards Odessa-area operators ask for

The two cards we see requested most are an H2S card and a current First Aid/CPR/AED card. Requirements vary by operator and site:

  • Many oil and gas operators list H2S training in their contractor requirements, often tracked through ISNetworld or Veriforce PEC.
  • Some operators require a specific H2S program, such as H2S Clear, rather than any H2S card. Check before booking.
  • Data center and construction sites around Odessa more often ask for First Aid/CPR/AED.

Ask your operator or site contact which card they accept, then send it to us and we will tell you if our class fits. H2S Awareness vs. H2S Clear explains the difference and where these requirements come from.

Classes and prices

  • H2S Safety: 4 hours. $125 per person, or $105 each for groups of 4 or more.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED: 2 hours, American Red Cross, 2-year card. $95 per person, or $80 each for groups of 4 or more.
  • Both on the same day: $199, or $170 each for groups of 4 or more.

A crew of 6 taking both classes on one day pays $170 each, or $1,020 total.

How long the cards last

The two cards renew on different schedules. Most operators expect H2S every year; see H2S training in Midland for why. A Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certificate is good for 2 years (American Red Cross). If your crew took both on the same day, the CPR card will still be good when the H2S card comes due, so plan an H2S-only class at the one-year mark.

Update the record, not just the wallet

If your operator checks training in ISNetworld or Veriforce, a new card in a worker's pocket does not help while the system still shows the old date. Upload or report new cards as soon as you have them, and check that the worker's name matches the one on the card.

Odessa crews can take H2S and CPR in Greenwood or have us come to your yard.
